Custom Mould Development, Paid for Once and Owned by You
Stock moulds cover most briefs — 3,000 of them, no tooling, 1,000 pcs per colour. This page is for the other case: the shape does not exist yet, and you want it made properly.
What We Do, in Order
| Stage | What you receive | Time |
|---|---|---|
| DFM review | A written note: wall, draft, gate, seal, thread, and what we would change | 3–5 days |
| Tool design | Parting line, ejection, cooling, cavity count, and the tolerance stack | 5–7 days |
| Tooling | Steel cut, fitted, first shots in-house (T0) | 15–30 days |
| T1 samples | Parts for fit, fill and leak test, with a measurement report | 7–10 days |
| Modification | The changes the trial asked for; first round usually included | 5–7 days |
| Production | 25–35 days after approval, photos before loading | — |
Who Pays, and Who Owns It
The customer pays for the tool. It is a one-off cost, invoiced by CXWN before cutting, and the tool belongs to the customer — it can be shipped or scrapped on instruction. It is not amortised into the unit price, and it is not refundable once steel is cut.
What "from USD 850" means, precisely: one single-cavity blow mould for one bottle body, no cap mould, no decoration tooling (screen, plate, metallising jig) and no second cavity. A four-part pack is a different number entirely — see the estimator.
What we will not do is quote a mould before the drawing is understood. A number without a DFM review is a guess with a date on it.
What Moves the Number
- Part count — each part is its own tool, trial and tolerance stack.
- Thread type — a thread that strips off the core is cheap; one that must unscrew adds 30–45 %.
- Finish — a mirror polish on a clear part adds days of hand work.
- Cavities — two cavities are about 1.6× the tool, four about 2.6×.

When a Mould Is the Wrong Answer
Under a few thousand pieces a year, the stock route is almost always better: a stock shape with decoration reads as bespoke at a fraction of the tooling. We say so before the invoice, not after.
