2 Oz Jars (60 ml): the Sample and Balm Size
2 oz is about 60 ml — the balm, salve and sample size. It is the jar where the lid liner matters more than the body.
2 oz is a scoop size: balm, salve, lip scrub, sample cream. The jar is small enough that the closure is most of the cost — and most of the failures.
This page covers what fits a 2 oz, which liner to pick, and where thin walls crack.
The free Bottle Spec Checker tests whether your neck fits the closure and whether the wall survives a pump stroke.

Lid and Liner Decide the Seal
A 2 oz jar holds an oil-based balm, and oil creeps. An EPE liner swells; a PE foam or induction seal holds. On a 60 ml jar the liner is a larger share of the unit price than the body.
EPE Liner
low-cost, fine for water-based creams; swells with oils.
PE Foam
Better with balms and salves.
Induction Seal
Tamper evidence; needs a flat rim land.
Wall and Rim
At 60 ml a thin rim cracks when the lid is over-torqued; 1.2 mm at the rim is the practical floor for PP.
Where It Is Used
Lip balm, salve, ointment, sample cream, pigment and glitter.
What to Send in a Brief
For a 2 oz (60 ml) pack used for balm and samples, five answers settle it: capacity, neck, closure, quantity and whether the pack travels. Those decide the wall, the liner and the carton before a sample is made.
The Three Numbers That Matter
Capacity, neck and wall. Everything else — colour, decoration, carton — follows them.
What We Check Before Quoting
That the closure exists in that neck, that the wall survives the fill, and that the carton protects the shoulder.
What We Do Not Do
Filling, formulation and label design. We supply the container and the closure, tested together.
Common Mistakes at This Size
Two failures dominate returns at this size: a closure that leaks in transit, and a wall thin enough to crack the first time it is dropped.
Both are decided at the specification stage, not at the mould.
