How Do Samples Work, and What Do They Cost?

Samples on stock moulds take 7 days. They are usually free; you pay the freight, collected on your account.

What You Get

A sample is taken from the production tool, not a showroom piece, with the closure fitted. That matters: a showroom sample that has been handled for two years tells you nothing about the tool.

What It Costs

Stock moulds: the sample is free, you pay freight. New tooling: the sample comes out of the trial run, which is part of the tooling cost.

Before You Approve

Leave the filled sample on its side for 48 hours. Most leaks show up there, not in the first hour.

What a Sample Proves

On a stock mould it proves the fit of your closure and the look of the pack. On a new mould, T1 proves the tool: geometry, wall and thread — not the final finish.

Test it filled, with the real formula, inverted overnight. A sample that passes dry and fails wet is a thread problem, not a moulding problem.

What to Write on the Approval

A sentence, a photo and a date: 'approved as received, except the neck colour'. That note is what a factory can hold itself to on a repeat order, and it is the difference between a rework argument and a reorder.

Frequently Asked

How long do samples take?

Can I get two colours?

Yes, one sample per colour requested.

Do you charge for samples?

Usually not on stock moulds — you cover freight.

How many rounds?

One to three. More usually means the drawing was approved before it was understood.
