Juice Bottles: Clear PET, Cold Fill, and the Hot Fill Trap

Juice is sold on colour and clarity, which means PET. It is also the category where hot fill quietly deforms standard bottles.

Juice bottles are clear PET with a wide neck for filling speed. The specification question is not the bottle, it is the fill temperature.

Cold Fill Versus Hot Fill

Most juice in PET is cold-filled and preserved by pH, preservative or chill chain. Above about 60 °C standard PET deforms — heat-set PET or PP/HDPE is the alternative.

Cold Fill

Standard PET; the default.

Hot Fill

Heat-set PET or PP; different mould and price.

Necks and Closures

28/410 for 250–500 ml with a tamper-evident cap; 38 mm where filling speed matters. The orifice is none for juice — it is poured, not dosed.

Where It Fails

Thin walls buckle on a fast filling line, and a bottle that looks fine empty can deform when filled cold at high speed.

Questions We Get on This

28/410 or 38 mm depending on filling speed.
