How Does Shipping From Shantou Work?
EXW, FOB Shantou or CIF — one 40HQ per week. A 40HQ holds roughly 20–24 pallets, depending on carton size.
The Three Terms
EXW means you collect from the factory. FOB Shantou means we deliver to the port and clear export. CIF means we also pay the ocean freight to your port. Most first orders go FOB.
Container Maths
A 40HQ holds 20–24 pallets. The number of pieces depends on the carton: a 500 ml bottle at 28 g packs around 200 per carton, which is 40,000–48,000 per container.
Sea, Air or Rail
Sea from Shantou or Shenzhen is the default for bottles: 25–35 days to Europe, 30–40 to the US East Coast. Air is for samples and urgent top-ups, and costs several times more per kilo.
Bottles are light for their volume, so most orders are charged on measurement rather than weight.
What the Carton Has to Survive
Bottles ship light and break late: the failure is almost always the carton, not the bottle. A 200-piece carton that is not full compresses in a stack, and the shoulder takes the load.
Ask for the carton test: a 1.2 m drop on a corner, filled to shipping weight. If it fails, the fix is usually a divider or a smaller carton, not a thicker bottle.
What the Buyer Actually Pays
Three lines: ocean freight or air, the surcharges at the time of booking, and the destination charges at your end. The first is quoted, the second moves weekly, the third is the one that surprises — terminal handling and documentation at the port of arrival are not part of the freight quote.
Ask the forwarder for a landed figure to your door, not a port-to-port rate. On a first order the difference between the two is usually the biggest unknown in the budget.
